We'd rather you find out now than in week three. Here's the straight version.

This is built for you if…

  • You're 20 or older and you've got something you want to build.
  • You have no technical background at all — that's genuinely fine, it's a beginner program.
  • You can commit 20–25 hours a week for three months.
  • You can get to the Fab Lab in Cairo regularly, including Saturdays.
  • You follow Arabic comfortably and can read and write intermediate English.
  • You have a laptop and you're willing to be a self-learner between sessions.
  • You're employed, freelancing, running a business, studying or between jobs — all of it works.

It's probably not for you if…

  • You need to attend entirely remotely. The fabrication happens on real machines — there's no distance-only version.
  • You want to go deep on one topic. This is deliberately broad — the fundamentals of every track, not a specialization.
  • You can't protect the hours. Assignments and documentation have real deadlines, and graduation depends on them.
  • You're looking for a lecture-only course to watch passively. You will be making things with your hands.

We read every application. Expect to hear back within 2 to 3 weeks on average, and never later than two weeks before the round starts.

Interview

Shortlisted applicants are invited to an online interview — a conversation about your motivation and your project idea.

Short Assessment

A brief technical assessment. It's not a gate on prior knowledge — it helps place you and shape the cohort.

You get your result, confirm your seat at the price you locked in, and start making in December.

Questions

Before you apply

No. The program has no technical prerequisites and is pitched at beginner level. What it does need is a self-learner's attitude — you'll be working through material between sessions on your own.

Yes — the schedule is built for it. Weekday sessions run after 5 PM and the hands-on lab work is on Saturdays. Budget 20 to 25 hours a week including your own work time. Plenty of graduates did it alongside full-time work.

Both Arabic and English. You'll want strong Arabic listening and speaking for the sessions, and intermediate English reading and writing for the technical material and documentation.

Minimum Windows 8.1 or macOS Mojave, a 64-bit processor, 4 GB of RAM, 20 GB of free disk space, and either a dedicated GPU or integrated graphics. You'll also need a reliable internet connection and the basic ability to install programs and move files around.

No. The lectures and one weekly session are online, but the fabrication is on real machines at the Fab Lab, and you need regular access to it. There's no accommodation for distance-only learning.

A rented kit is yours for the three months and must be returned in full when you finish — it's the cheapest way in. An owned kit is yours permanently, so you can keep building after the diploma ends. You pick which one you want inside the application. You can see the full component list here.

On average within 2 to 3 weeks of submitting, and never later than two weeks before the round kicks off. If you're shortlisted you'll be invited to an online interview, then a short technical assessment, then a final decision.

English — all responses must be submitted in English, to prepare you for the international maker ecosystem.
